In Our Thoughts and Prayers...

Chapter 47 members who have passed or are experiencing health issues:

James Wood and Larry Mendoza passed away November 2011

Pat Pagel has been diagnosed with breast cancer. - Update from John: After having the consultation with the Doc's this morning we are both doing the "Dance of Joy". The cancer is only 8 millimeters in size so the week after Thanksgiving Pat will go in for a Lumpectomy, out patient procedure, in and out the same day. About 5 weeks later she will start radiation treatments for about 5 weeks and then she'll be on drugs. The Doc's feel very confident that this will solve the condition and be done with it. Many "THANKS" to you all for the prayers and kind words of support.

Lew Millett, Col. USA (Ret.) MOH Korea, passed away November 2009

Chuck Sanchez’ wife has been at Kaiser now fighting a life-threatening illness.

Jim Valdez just had a cataract surgery and is doing well.

John Pagel and Steve Mackey, both have had numerous skin cancers removed.

Pat Pagel is having health issues, please keep her in your prayers.

AVVA member, Sherry Hohmann has not been very ill for quite a while.

Lee Millett, Colonel Millett’s son and Sculptor of the National POW/MIA Memorial has been battling pneumonia for quite sometime.

Chapter 47 AVVA member Deb Kennedy’s mother Joanne passed away recently from pancreatic cancer. She had just been diagnosed a few weeks prior to her passing. Mike Kennedy, Chapter 47’s Vice President was Joanne’s son-in-law. Debbie’s father has just finished chemotherapy for treatment of prostate cancer.

Chapter 47 member, Glenn Waggoner's brother, James, passed away, June 27, 2008 from heart failure. James was one of ten children and a veteran of the United States Army.

 Paul Adkins, lovely mother, Mary, passed away. One year prior to Mary’s death, Paul’s father passed away. Bob Spears mother passed away, also.

 Please let us know if you are experiencing an illness an illness with a loved one or loss of a loved one.

Our chapter is family and we do care.                 

When we don’t see or hear from our members, we think of you often in hopes that all is going good for you.

August 12, 2005 - Maggie Mackey succumbed to her fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

Please pray for the family.

Maggie was an AVVA member of Chapter 47, and was very involved in our events when her health allowed.

Chapter 47 AVVA member Linda Barrett, wife of Chapter 47 member Richard Barrett, passed away January 8, 2005 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was on Hospice and at home at the time of her death. Richard has since moved to Texas, but he will always be in hour hearts & minds.

Chapter president, Steve Mackey, lost his father December 29, 2004, at 8:50pm.

He had suffered a long illness, of which he is free now. However, as most of us know, that doesn't minimize the loss for those who loved him.

Mr. Mackey was World War II veteran, having served at the height of battle in Germany.

Burial Riverside National Cemetery. May he rest in peace.

From John Paton: "I'm very sorry to report that our very dear friend Vannie Vincenzi passed away November 11, of heart complications. Maria is very upset and she needs our prayers. Vannie was a member of the Italian Army and worked with the U.S. Army in Nato over in Italy. Over the years Vannie and Maria have supplied the V.A. Hospital in Loma Linda with food and other Items to the Patients on behalf of Chapter 47.
Remember Maria in your prayers.

Vanni was a very active AVVA member affiliated with Chapter 47. His contributions, both of himself and materially, are too many to list. His presence at Chapter 47 will be sorely missed.

Chapter 47's "Chapter Gold Star Parents," Barbara and Frank Alford have lost Barbara to complications from her recent heart surgery. Their Son, Michael, an Army Medic, was KIA in Vietnam in 1968. Barbara is with Michael again, and will be buried near him at Riverside National Cemetery. May you rest in peace, Barbara...and give Michael a big hug from all of us at Chapter 47.


As the names on the Wall reflect the images of those visiting the Memorial, those behind the Wall are waiting for us on the other side.
Barbara and her dear son Michael have made that connection.
Frank Alford now holds Michael's memory for the living to share, and one day too he, Barbara, and Michael will be together again.
